Weekly Update for August 1, 2021
This past Sunday – for the first time in more than a year – every cushion, bench and chair in the main zendo was occupied when we sat down for the first round. We were regulars, relative newcomers and some folks we had not seen in quite a long time. One or two had to leave early, but we started out full and, as I have quoted Ken before in saying, “Happiness is a full zendo.”
By the way, we did have plenty of room in the small zendo, so never hesitate to come because you worry about a lack of room. There will always be room.
Looking ahead: on Saturday, August 21, we will have an All-Day Sit. We will start at 8:30 a.m. (earlier than usual) and close at 4:30 or so. If you would like to attend, please let me know. The suggested donation is $20 for members, $25 for non-members and you should bring your own lunch. Also, Lawson Roshi is scheduled to visit September 23-26th for a three-day intensive retreat, so please mark your calendars!
I hope to see you soon.
In the meantime, if you can come to the Center on a Friday night, August 20th (7pm-8pm), the all day sitting on Saturday, August 21st (8:30am-4:30pm) and our regular Sunday morning sitting (9:30a-11:30a) on August 22nd, you will have had a pretty nice weekend retreat!
