Chanting and Zendo Practices Training – Saturday, July 15th and Sunday Dharma talk, July 16th
Jamie Friedrich will be joining us Saturday and Sunday July 15th and 16th for a Saturday chanting and zendo practices clinic and to give a Dharma talk at our Sunday Formal Meditation Practice.

Jamie will lead a training morning from 9:00 to 1:00 on Saturday July 15th. She will offer instruction on the chanting instruments, overall chanting, the playing of the han, the clapper and inkhin bell, overall timing, proper prostrations, general zendo etiquette, and formal meals (as time permits). There will be periods of zazen throughout the morning. Bring a vegitarian lunch for the meal on Saturday – soup, juice and tea will be provided by the Clear Water Zen Center.
On Sunday, July 16th, at our regular Formal Zen Meditation sitting, Jamie will give a Dharma talk on “Honest Life Practice” about how a sense of engagement with radical self-honesty can ground and guide our sitting practice, and also how we express practice in our day-to-day life.

Jamie’s sitting practice began at 24, arising out of an undeniable, life-long draw to deep inquiry. After practicing with the Clear Water Zen sangha for some time, she moved to Windhorse Zen Community to engage in residential Zen training with Roshi Lawson Sachter. In her life-practice, consistent, disciplined sitting including frequent retreat ground a strong engagement in the world through environmental activism, community service and sharing practice basics.
